Erawan Museum, Thailand
While stained glass is a rarity in Asia, it is nonetheless stunning. Situated just outside Bangkok, the Erawan Museum houses an array of antiques and takes inspiration from the Hindu representation of the Universe, with symbols of the underworld, earth and Heaven. The stained glass window, or more accurately roof, features an illustration of the world along with the zodiac. The blues and yellows of the window bathe the museum in a golden light, adding to the stunning architecture of the building.
St. Vitus Cathedral, Czech Republic
Boasting a number of stained glass windows depicting the story of creation, St. Wenceslas and episodes from the lives of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the windows are steeped in Slavic history. The two most famous widows were designed by artists Mucha and Kysela respectively and installed in the late 1920s, nearly 600 years after building of the cathedral commenced.
Dreihaus Museum, Chicago
Not only is the Dreihaus Museum home to a spectacular stained glass domed ceiling, but it is also plays host to a collection of works by acclaimed stained glass artist, Louis Comfort Tiffany. The glass ceiling, added to the building’s library in 1900, features 4 autumnal trees set against the blue of the Chicago sky, showing the importance of looking up from time to time.
